We are a friendly group of mixed abilities who all enjoy music and dance. Sequence dancing is primarily a fun and relaxed social activity which is popular in the UK and several other countries around the world. It is based on ballroom and latin dance moves using set routines and involves all couples/pairs dancing the same steps at the same time.
There are literally thousands of sequence dances and our group is learning and practising the most popular of these, which are often danced on cruise ships and in many holiday venues.
There is no dress code but wearing something comfortable which allows for easy movement is best. You may get warm so layers also make sense. Rubber soled shoes should be avoided if possible as they tend to stick and not let the feet turn and move easily on the floor. Rather than have a long tea break the group has two or three short breaks between dances and people bring their own drinks. We are sometimes asked if people need a partner to come to our sessions. As with ballroom and Latin dancing, sequence dancing requires people to dance as couples so although we do have a few people who are on their own, they have usually paired up with a friend or someone else in the same situation. Otherwise we cannot guarantee they would have someone to dance with at each session
If you are unsure about joining us U3a members can come along to one of our sessions free of charge to see if the group is right for you.
