Riding a bike is about getting in shape, being healthy and having fun.
Please contact the Group Leader, by simply clicking on the Group Email link above.
The cycling group meets every Wednesday at 1000 hrs by the town library main entrance next to the priory centre. Members keep in touch via our cycling group WhatsApp chat forum. Normally, a day or 2 before the ride, we identify who is available on the day and check the weather forecast. We don’t cycle in high winds, heavy rain, fog or in icy conditions. Our rides are generally around 20 miles (32 km), cycled at a reasonable but manageable pace and with a welcome coffee break at a halfway point. The rides last about 2 1/2 hours.
A new member who wants to cycle should send an email to the group leader who, after an initial chat to confirm basic criteria, will then advise the main group (currently we have 12 riders as members) that a new rider is coming so that he or she gets a nice welcome. You will be assigned a “buddy” to ensure you will not be left alone on your first few rides.
We cycle at a reasonable pace so new riders need to have a good level of fitness. We have a mix of traditional and Ebikes, so either is welcome. While every effort is taken to avoid busy A and B class roads, riders must be competent and confident road users. Bikes must be in good condition and fully roadworthy with a bell and lights. Riders must wear a high visibility jacket and we would encourage the wearing of a helmet.
We work very hard to ensure that all new riders cycle within their comfort range. The most important thing is that you enjoy it.
Both groups (Cycling Wheelers & Cycling Pedallers) keep in touch via their respective group WhatsApp chat forum. Getting together with your other cycling guys and gals for a leisurely workout are all things you should try to do as much as possible and for the pure enjoyment of it.
